Organizing your home is never a fun task. Even saying the phrase makes you cringe and immediately want to do something else.

Perhaps you would feel better about the whole ordeal if you knew by the end of it you would be saving yourself time and money. Well good news, organizing your home will save you time and money in the long run. Here’s 3 ways how.

1. Eliminates duplicates

Have you ever gone to the store and purchased an item because you thought you needed it, but then arrived home only to realize you already had said item?

This scenario happens for many rooms in the house, especially closets and kitchens.

The easiest way to keep track of things is to make them visible. The more visibility you have, the less money you’ll spend replacing items you already have or items you think you lost.

Try buying a few lazy Susan’s to put in your cupboards to make your items more accessible. Or put behind-the-cabinet-door racks to hold cutting boards, pot lids, or aluminum foil.

The same goes for your closet. Buy a few organization tools for your closet to increase your visibility and decrease the amount of money you’re spending on clothing items you can’t find.

2. Stops missed bills and late fees

Having an organized financial situation can be an overwhelming task with the plethora of emails and mail you receive everyday containing bills, missed deadlines, and more.

Instead of losing important documents or misplacing your bills and then accruing a late fee, how about you focus on organizing both your digital and printed documents.

You can buy a filing cabinet, or just mount a few shelves or baskets in your home office – or near the door to help you categorize your mail. For example, you could have 3 baskets labeled “File,” “Respond,” and “Bills.” This way your bills never get lost and you won’t miss a payment, especially if you hang a calendar right next to the baskets.

In addition, make sure you create a budget. Knowing what your financial situation is will save you money in the long run too because you’ll know what you can afford and what you can’t.

3. Decreases overbuying at grocery store

Planning your meals in advance will help save you money at the grocery store. Sit down and make a list of meals for the upcoming weeks, you’d be surprised how much you could save by knowing your weekly meals in advance.

When you enter the store you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for and how much you need. This helps eliminate the possibility of you wandering around the store and grabbing items you don’t need.

Also, make sure you grocery list is accurate by doing a weekly inventory check.

More “you” time and more money

The most important thing organizing your home will save you is your time. You won’t spend countless hours searching for your lost items or coming across items you didn’t really need to buy. Instead you’ll be able to spend your time doing something else that matters to you, like spending time with you family, or learning a new skill.
